This phenomenal growth is a testament to your talent and dedication,” Michelle Ho, General Manager of Klook Philippines and Thailand, said, opening the Kreator-studded night.

“In the past eight months alone, your Kreator codes have facilitated nearly half a million transactions and inspired almost half a million travelers, not just in the Philippines, but all over the world,” Michelle boasted. “At Klook, we are committed to continuing our support to you and our Kreator program, and we are dedicated to growing and evolving alongside you,” she added.

An industry innovation, Klook developed the Kreator Program in Q4 of 2022 to create mutually beneficial relationships with public figures through an influencer affiliate initiative. The goal was to build a community with a shared passion for travel and content creation, and the program has seen great success since its launch.

With 15 awards and 27 awardees announced that night, Klook awarded Kreators of three different categories: First is People’s Choice, where the public was given the chance to vote for their favorite Kreators, followed by Partners’ Choice, the category in which Klook’s valued partners chose their top Kreators. The final category is Klook’s Choice, which bases its winners on Kreators’ performance under the Kreator Program for July 2023 to July 2024.

As the program commenced, the awarding ceremony captured more than just the speeches of those who won their awards; it also captured the immense passion, dedication, and sense of community.

The “Favorite Female Travel Kreator” title was voted for among 10,000 netizens on Klook’s social media. Winner Jen Barangan, a former flight attendant turned travel, food, beauty, and lifestyle Kreator, thanked Klook, her peers, supporters, and her fiance and shared the award with her fellow travelers, saying, “Let’s continue to create adventures and share them with the world!”

Joining Jen, Arshie Larga won “Favorite Male Travel Kreator.” Later in the night, Arshie also bagged the “Dapper Explorer Award (Best Dressed, Male Category),” and the sought-after “Trendsetter Award” for popularizing one of Vietnam’s hidden gems — Sapa. “When I started creating content back in 2016, the number one brand na gusto kong makatrabaho is Klook, because travel content talaga yung ini-aim ko, pero sadly it didn’t work.” Despite his initial plans of being a travel creator falling through then, he amassed a following of 4.1 Million followers on TikTok, loved by many for his informative content as a pharmacist and now, as a travel creator too. “Just keep on being inspired to create content, wag natin gawin lahat just for the money. Just enjoy what you’re doing and darating yung time na mabibigyan ka ng opportunity na mag-shine sa inyong mga platform,” he concluded.

Nung estudyante palang ako, iniipon ko yung baon ko para makapag-travel kahit once a year lang,” Ivan De Guzman, winner of “Top Hotel Kreator” award said. Being the Kreator with the highest hotel booking sales from July 2023 to July 2024, he shared his own experience in the program, “Simula noong naging Klook Kreator ako, nakatravel na ako sa 13 countries, 12 po doon, ginamit ko si Klook.” As a Kreator with insightful travel tips and vlogs, he ended his speech inspiring his fellow kreators. “All together, we will reach places we never knew would be possible with Klook.”

Travel and food creator Maine Ybiernas accepted the “Rising Star Traveler Award” with a very personal story of her own, sharing that “in the middle of the construction of our dream house, we stopped for nine months. It was Klook who gave way for me to earn more so that I could finish the house.” Championing remarkable growth from top 100, to now top 5 Kreators, she expressed her gratitude to the opportunities that brought her to where she is today.

Jm Banquicio, winner of the “Top Outbound Kreator Award,” was recognized for having achieved the highest sales for international destinations such as Japan, Hong Kong, and South Korea. As a travel, food, and lifestyle creator, Jm doubled down on those who supported his content creation journey saying “Itong award na to, bonus nalang sa atin eh. Just being part of the Kreator Community, malaking bagay siya para sa akin. Tuloy-tuloy sa pagawa ng content, and let’s support each other. Thank you, Klook!” he said.

Chuck and Joe, celebrated their win for the title of “Top Domestic Kreator Award,” which is given to the Kreators who have achieved the highest sales for local travel destinations. “First namin talagang goal when we started content creation on travel was to promote local tourism. Thank you, Klook, kasi isa ang Klook sa nagbigay samin ng opportunity to travel to different places,” the duo happily announced.

The Cenzons, another iconic and lively travel twosome, won the Kreator of the Year, Silver Award. “Talagang ito yung most rewarding time noong naging Klook Kreator kami, kasi we should have been in another place. It’s a long story, but I think Klook saved us, and I’m really proud of this chapter,” Moe Cenzon shared.

MANILA, PHILIPPINES — Leading finance super app GCash has teamed up with the Municipality of Malay to further promote cash-lite tourism in Boracay Island through the town’s unified ticketing payment system, the eBoracay platform.

Through the partnership, tourists can easily pay terminal, environmental, and boat fees starting with Tabon Port of Malay, along with more transactions by logging in here. The portal is powered by its electronic payment and collection system provider, Surepay Technologies Inc. (SPTI)

“The unified automated process and cashless payments will be available in more access ports going to Boracay, as we help build a secure and seamless cashless ecosystem that supports the sustainable development of one of the best islands in the world,” said Jong Layug, group head of GCash B2B.

For his part, Atty. Arnold Caballero, SPTI president, welcomed the partnership and their contract with the local government unit of Malay, noting that the collecting required fees via the Tabon Port entry is an essential first step toward providing ultimate convenience to tourists and residents of Boracay.

“The enactment resolutions by LGU of Malay paved the way for a unified ticketing payment system which is aimed to consolidate processes and automate payments. It’s really quick and tourists will no longer have to write anything manually or take out from their wallet and look for the cash,” Caballero said.

For more flexible cashless payment options, GCash also offers GCredit and GGives features that let users shop now and pay later. GCredit allows tourists to extend their travel budget by providing a credit limit determined by their GScore. This gives adventure lovers more freedom to make the most out of their vacation and experience the best things that Boracay has to offer such as Paraw sailing, tour activities to Puka beach, cliff diving, and famous restos that accept GCash as a payment option while staying safe and without needing to withdraw cash.

Another cashless way to pay is via the GGives feature, allowing users to pay for their transactions in up to 24 installments or “gives” for those who go on shopping sprees at D-Mall.

“Tourists no longer have to bring cash around and can easily pay in advance before their arrival on the island. Even local residents need not have to fall in line as they can be booked through the system if they so desire in the project’s next phase,” Malay Mayor Frolibar Bautista said.

MANILA, PHILIPPINES — Palawan is one of the country’s crown jewels, and rightfully so. There are dozens of activities in Palawan with picturesque backgrounds, which is why it’s no surprise to see that it has bagged another prestigious accolade, this time as one of the Trending Destinations in the World for 2024 on Tripadvisor, the world’s largest travel site for travel deals and reviews.

This latest recognition comes on the heels of back-to-back global citations from international magazines for Palawan in 2023 as one of the World’s Most Desirable Countries for Adventure, to Travel + Leisure’s top Islands, to Condé Nast Traveler’s Most Beautiful Places in the World and Top Readers’ Choice, cementing the continued winning streak of Palawan’s sites’ enduring appeal as a sought-after travel destination.

“As Palawan continues to turn heads and warm hearts across the globe, this latest accolade from Tripadvisor is but a testament to the island’s timeless allure. Ensuring the sustainability of Palawan’s tourism development and promoting an enhanced tourism experience for travelers is of utmost importance which is why the national government is engaging in collaboration and partnership with the local government units of Palawan,” Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco said of the global citation, citing sustainable practices, conservation efforts and community engagement initiatives as integral components of ensuring that Palawan’s natural heritage is preserved for generations to come – especially when it comes to preserving the Tagbanuan culture in Palawan.

“We could not be more grateful to the travel community for placing Palawan at the forefront of global travel trends. This singular achievement motivates us to maintain our commitment to sustainable tourism and showcase the beauty of Palawan to the world. Further to this, Palawan’s winning streak on Tripadvisor will certainly have a positive impact on its tourism industry. With the global recognition, the island is poised to attract a surge in visitors, providing a boost to the local economy and reinforcing Palawan’s position as a top-tier travel destination,” she added.

Renowned for its unparalleled natural beauty and unique charm, Palawan boasts some of the country’s pristine and crystal-clear turquoise waters, lush tropical landscapes, and idyllic white-sand beaches. The island destination has long been celebrated for its responsible and sustainable tourism practices while preserving its natural heritage and biodiversity. That being said, it’s no wonder that Palawan is full of places to see and things to do that’ll keep any visitor’s itinerary full.

What to Do in Palawan

Palawan’s picturesque sites are more than just a place to see, it’s also the backdrop of many activities for tourists looking to experience Palawan’s cool blue waters and diverse ecosystems. If you’re planning a trip to Palawan and you’re still not sure where to begin, here’s a list of things you may want to consider.

Scuba Dive

Palawan is full of various underwater sites to behold that only scuba divers can explore. As one of the top diving sites in the Philippines, scuba divers may sift through history by diving at shipwreck sites or explore Palawan’s reefs and see its underwater ecosystem come alive in the ocean.

There’s no shortage of choice dive sites in Palawan, whether you choose to go to South Miniloc, Barracuda Lake, or Coron. You’ll find adventure at every spot.

Zipline at El Nido

For thrill-seekers who want to see Palawan’s beauty unobstructed, they can harness up and fly through El Nido’s Sabang Beach. Sabang X Zipline will give you a view like no other as you zip through Sabang Beach’s skies and admire its clear blue waters.

Island Hop

Are you looking for a port where you can embark on your island-hopping adventure? Thankfully, Palawan has five areas that can accommodate your wanderlust. The best part? Whether you’re hopping on a boat at Honda Bay, Port Barton, El Nido, Balabac, or Coron, you’re guaranteed to visit pristine beaches like no other. No tour is ever the same because each jump-off point has something different to offer its visitors.

Boat Through the Underground River

Puerto Princesa’s Subterranean River National Park is a UNESCO heritage site that’s known for its limestone karst landscapes, diverse ecosystem, and impressive cave system. This national park has an 8.2 km long underground river that flows out to the sea. The national park also contains a mountain-to-sea ecosystem, which houses some of the most important forests in Asia.

As you navigate through the winding caves on a small banca, you’ll find yourself in awe of the beautiful limestone formations – just make sure to watch out for bats as they glide through the inner chambers.

Bird Watch

For bird-watching enthusiasts, Palawan has many sites where they can spot migratory birds and some of the country’s endemic species. If you’re lucky, you may even spot critically endangered avians that you can add to your lifer list.

Who knows, maybe during your birding adventure you’ll bump into other endemic animals, sans wings, just like just like Pandi the Pangolin, who returned to Palawan in 2021 after taking a brief vacation in Manila.

Adventurous,Kayaking,In,Coron,,El,Nido,,Palawan,,Philippines,Limestone,Cliff

Swim in Lakes

Of course, Palawan’s clear blue waters would be for nothing if you don’t enjoy it. Make sure to make time to jump into Palawan’s waters and swim off the humid tropical weather.

A good place to start is Kayangan Lake in Coron. Kayangan Lake is one of the cleanest lakes in Southeast Asia. This volcanic lake features caves and islets, which has made it one of Palawan’s most iconic spots.

Visit Calauit Island

When you arrive at Calauit Game Preserve and Wildlife Sanctuary, you’re transported to an African Safari. This is because Calauit Island is inhabited by antelopes, giraffes, and zebras, which were imported from Africa. These animals live in harmony with some of the country’s local fauna.

A Slice of Heaven

The list of “what to see in Palawan” never seems to end because of the island’s geography and biodiversity. The island’s recognition by Tripadvisor solidifies its status as a must-visit destination for global explorers seeking an immersive and unforgettable experience. Tripadvisor’s recognition reflects the island’s ability to captivate the imagination of travelers seeking unique and awe-inspiring experiences.

Tripadvisor’s Trending Destinations list is highly anticipated each year, influencing travel decisions for millions of users. Travelers praise Palawan as “a slice of heaven, a sliver of an island that teems with exotic wildlife, quaint fishing villages, and UNESCO World Heritage Sites.”

Travelers’ Choice Awards Best of the Best winners are destinations whose hotels, restaurants, and things to do received a high volume of above-and-beyond reviews and opinions from its users over a 12-month period. Fewer than one percent of Tripadvisor’s eight million listings are awarded Best of the Best, signifying the highest level of excellence in travel. A digital travel guide behemoth, Tripadvisor is renowned for its discerning users and comprehensive reviews. It annually curates a list of destinations that capture the attention and admiration of travelers.

MANILA, PHILIPPINES — A grand display of Cebu’s sights, sounds, and taste welcomed over 600 global delegates of the inaugural UN Tourism Regional Forum on Gastronomy Tourism for Asia and the Pacific as it formally opened on June 26 at The Marquee of Shangri-La Mactan.

Co-organized by the Philippine Department of Tourism (DOT), the UN Tourism, and the Basque Culinary Center, the event gathered participants from UN member-states, affiliate members, and tourism stakeholders from national and international organizations. A first of its kind in Asia and the Pacific, the forum seeks to become a platform to celebrate the power of gastronomy tourism by bringing together destinations and international experts in an exchange of knowledge and best practices in order to fully harness the transformative power of gastronomy tourism, especially its benefits to local communities and the environment.

Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco, UN Tourism Secretary-General Zurab Pololikashvili, BCC Director of Masters and Courses Idoia Calleja, Lapu-Lapu City Lone District Representative Ma. Cynthia “Cindi” King Chan, Lapu-Lapu City Mayor Junard Chan, UN Tourism Ambassador for Gastronomy Tourism Chef Vicky Cheng of VEA Restaurant in Hong Kong, and foreign dignitaries led the ceremonial pouring of rice into a giant pusô, a rice cake made by boiling rice in a woven pouch of palm leaves that serves as a major culinary pride of Cebuanos, one of the diverse gastronomic offerings that can be found in the Philippines.

The Philippines holds the honor of hosting this inaugural UN Tourism forum after its election as Chair of the Commission for East Asia and the Pacific during the 55th Meeting of the UNWTO Regional Commission for East Asia and the Pacific held in Cambodia last June 16, 2023.

“We’re deeply honored by the confidence conferred upon our nation by United Nations Tourism and its member states to host this inaugural global event that brings together ministers, heads of delegation, heads of mission, experts, stakeholders, enthusiasts from over 40 countries from around the world and Asia Pacific to celebrate gastronomy, to develop and promote tourism, and to cultivate the symbiotic relationship of these two sectors that assures their and our mutual success,” Secretary Frasco said.

Educational gastronomy center for the Philippines eyed

In his speech, the Secretary General lauded the leadership of Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco for hosting the inaugural event, noting the warm welcome he received on his first visit to Cebu.

“This event here is a historical day because we are celebrating the first time-ever gastronomy forum in the region, and it’s not only gastronomy, it’s culture,” he said.

Polikashvili said that under his helm, he wants to leave a legacy to the organization. One of his proposals is to establish an educational gastronomy center in the Philippines, particularly in Cebu, as the country hosts the prestigious event for the first time.

“We know that education is the top priority for your tourists, and we will support this initiative to help the progress of UN Tourism,” he added.

Calleja, meanwhile, emphasized gastronomy tourism’s massive potential in promoting a community’s well-being, transforming societies’ socio-economic needs, saying, “Gastronomy is one of the sectors that show the way of life. When we travel, we like to discover the local cuisines, destinations, restaurants, tastes, products, and traditions, and to be able to have an authentic experience,” citing how many destinations have brought gastronomy front and center, driving employment and business opportunities for the entire value chain.

She likewise expressed gratitude to the DOT under Secretary Frasco’s leadership in making the high-level forum possible. Also, speaking at the forum opening, Mayor Chan welcomed the delegates and said

“Allow me [in] behalf of the peace loving Cebuanos to formally welcome you all to the historic city of Lapu-Lapu, Cebu. Looking forward to your memorable stay while you’re enjoying our food, the sun, the sand and the sea, our rich culture and history, and our warm reception and accommodation. Enjoy and have fun in Cebu. Love Cebu! Love the Philippines!”

Cebu, a fitting host for historic forum

According to Secretary Frasco, Cebu, with over half a millennia of recorded history and deeply embedded cultural heritage, serves as a “fitting venue” for the delegates’ gastronomic explorations and discussions. In her opening remarks, she then took guests on a journey through Cebu’s rich history and its significance in Philippine history.

Secretary Frasco noted that the country’s vast and varied cultural and culinary influences, including those of the Spanish, Chinese, and Americans, have complimented the foundation of the country’s Malay heritage and indigenous origins that have come to define the Filipino identity.

“Filipino cuisine is a diverse tapestry of flavors, reflecting regional characteristics from across our beautiful archipelago of 7,641 islands, from the globally renowned Cebu lechon and the comforting tastes of adobo and sinigang to Mindanao’s distinctive dishes like curacha, pastil, our culinary heritage is rich and varied. We also host delicacies such as balut, a fertilized duck egg, and halo-halo, a refreshing dessert composed of crushed ice, sweet beans, fruits, and leche flan. Through our food, we tell the story of the Filipino. We narrate the victories of our people, our homeland, our history,” the DOT chief shared.

Fast-forward to the present day. The Philippines, Secretary Frasco shared, has embraced food as a way to tell the story, victories, and history of the Filipino people.

“Food tourism is, of course, a growing and dynamic sector, offering enormous potential for economic growth and advancement and cultural exchange among nations. By showcasing our local flavors and culinary traditions, we invite the rest of the world to experience the heart and soul of the Filipino, the heart of the Philippines,” she added.

“We will treat all of you to a regional lunch that has been prepared by our chefs from all over the Philippines, from all regions of the Philippines, where you will get an opportunity to taste the diverse flavors of this vast tapestry of our nation. As well, our regional offices of the Department of Tourism have prepared products that reflect of indigenous culture of various influences and will give you a preview into the many reasons to love the Philippines,” Secretary Frasco said, rallying the delegates behind promoting and developing gastronomy tourism within the region through the endorsement of the Cebu Call to Action.

“Tomorrow, you will have the opportunity to get to know the Province of Cebu, in the technical tours that have been prepared in collaboration with the Cebu Provincial Government that will take you to the islands of Camotes, to the history and heritage that is well-represented in Argao and Dalaguete, as well as to our ecotourism offerings in Aloguinsan. That will be concluded by a gala dinner to which all of you are invited at the Cebu Provincial Capitol, the seat of power in the province, as well as a fashion show by world-renowned designer Furne Amato hosted by the Cebu Provincial Government,” Secretary Frasco revealed.

This reduction, effective from July 1 to 31, 2024, provides a timely opportunity for holiday travelers to take advantage of lower fares for peak seasons as it applies to AirAsia and all other flights from 700 airlines on the AirAsia MOVE app.

Weng Rivera, AirAsia MOVE Philippines Head of Travel, said: “We are thrilled with the government’s decision to lower fuel surcharges as it aligns perfectly with our commitment to provide affordable travel options for everyone. We encourage everyone to book early and take advantage of the reduced costs, so they can use their savings from this on other travel expenses or however they wish to use it.”

To make flight purchases even more affordable, AirAsia MOVE is offering discounts on top of the already low fares for all airlines available on the app.

Apart from flight discounts, AirAsia MOVE is also offering exciting discounts on hotel bookings.

Travel hack from AirAsia MOVE

For travelers looking for affordable getaways on top of low fares and discounts, AirAsia MOVE recommends booking domestic flights for September to October travels as these are non-peak seasons for air travel, so flights are cheaper compared to other months. Although not necessarily cheap, the ideal time to travel in Asian countries is during the latter half of the “Ber-months” as the weather is usually more favorable during this time.

AirAsia MOVE says booking early is the best way to score cheap flight deals as prices tend to go up as it closes in to the actual travel dates. Booking early also provides ample time to plan other aspects of the trip, such as accommodations, transportation, and activities.

Here’s what’s making waves in 2024:

Immersive cultural experiences

Local food tours are popular in Asia-Pacific with seven out of the top 10 countries coming from the region, with the Philippines not far behind.

Nature-based travel and sustainability

Interest in tree planting and travel is booming globally, with the Philippines amongst the top 10 most-interested countries. This shows a desire to give back as part of people’s stay.

AI upgrading travel

Travelers are turning to AI to help plan their trips and get help while on the go. AI searches related to travel are also at a near-all-time high globally; the same is true in the Philippines.

The shift toward more diverse tourism in the Philippines is likely fueled by factors like rising costs, a post-pandemic desire for authentic connection, and a growing awareness of sustainability. It will be fascinating to see how these trends evolve, but it’s great to see Filipinos exploring new ways of traveling.

CEBU, PHILIPPINES — With the rising popularity of travel shows and travel vlogging, not to mention the regular sharing of videos and photos on social media, it only takes an internet connection for anyone to see various sights and tourist attractions all over the world. And while one can virtually gain familiarity with various tastes and dishes from all over the world, nothing beats savoring the actual thing bite by bite.

As travel has become more accessible, gastronomy tourism has become a major driver for travel among tourists, with the World Food Travel Association reporting that around 80% of travelers research food and drink while visiting a destination and classifies over half (53%) of all travelers as “culinary travelers.” Furthermore, according to a 2023 report by Booking.com, 34% of travelers prioritize restaurants and dining experiences, viewing them as gateways to understanding local traditions and lifestyles.

Recognizing travelers’ growing interest in food and the opportunities that gastronomy holds in sustainable socio-economic development, cultural exchange, and well-being, the United Nations (UN) Tourism will organize the inaugural UN Tourism Regional Forum on Gastronomy Tourism for Asia and the Pacific, alongside the 36th UN Tourism Joint Commission Meeting for East Asia and the Pacific and Commission for South Asia from June 26-28, 2024 in Cebu, Philippines. Hosted by the Philippines through its Department of Tourism (DOT), this highly anticipated event will be held at Shangri-La Mactan in Cebu City from June 26-27 2024, while the 36th UN Tourism Joint Commission Meeting for East Asia and the Pacific and Commission for South Asia is scheduled on June 28, 2024 at Sheraton Mactan.

The event is expected to gather some 300 attendees including ministers from UN member-states, affiliate members, and tourism stakeholders from international organizations to exchange knowledge and best tourism practices in the Pacific, East, and South Asia regions.

The Philippines, Chair of the UN Tourism Commission for East Asia and the Pacific Philippine Tourism Secretary Christina Garcia Frasco expressed the DOT and stakeholders’ readiness to host the preeminent UN Tourism events, highlighting the country’s hosting as a perfect opportunity for the Philippines to showcase its culinary treasures on a global stage.

“As Chair of the UN Tourism Commission for East Asia and the Pacific, the Philippines commits fully to leveraging the region’s strategic position to promote a range of initiatives that will benefit not only our country but also our neighbors, particularly, its rich and diverse gastronomy tourism portfolio. With only a few weeks left until the country’s historic hosting of the UN Tourism Regional Forum on Gastronomy Tourism for Asia and the Pacific, we are closely working with our partners to ensure that our forum delegates coming from all over the world will be able to immerse deep in our rich culinary traditions, and treated with nothing less than the warm hospitality that Filipinos are known for all over the world. With the full support of our President Ferdinand R. Marcos, Jr., and with all of our stakeholders working together—from the national government, our local government units and communities, our various stakeholders from the travel and tourism industry, we are optimistic for the success of the country’s auspicious hosting of these important tourism events,” Christina said.

According to the tourism chief, the Philippines could not be a more fitting host country for the event, with the growing popularity of Filipino food across the world.

Home of the world’s best dishes

Future Market Insights valued the Philippine gastronomy tourism market at USD 5.4 billion in 2022 and it has been projected a compounded growth annually at 14.7% over the next decade. Iconic Filipino dishes such as our braised pork and chicken dish “adobo,” tamarind-based sour soup “sinigang,” and the ever-popular open fire-roasted “lechon” and “sisig” have earned praise from known food journalists in the past. For instance, the late chef and TV host Anthony Bourdain, while dining in Cebu, branded lechon the “best pig ever” and declared Pampanga’s sizzling pork medley sisig as “perfectly positioned to win the hearts and minds of the world as a whole.” Food critic Andrew Zimmern, meanwhile, has gone on record to declare Filipino food as “the next big thing” in the US as early as 2017.

The Philippines is also home to Iloilo City, a UNESCO Creative City for Gastronomy, and regions such as Western Visayas, the Cordillera Administrative Region, Pampanga, and Cebu are actively engaged in the development of Slow Food programs.

These raves, as well as the increasing popularity of Filipino and fusion food around the world as evinced by numerous awards and citations accorded to Filipino chefs, restaurants, food, chocolate, even liquor and spirits — have encouraged the Philippines’ DOT to further promote culinary tourism, recognizing the country’s vast potential as a leading gastronomy destination in Asia.

Under its National Tourism Development Plan (2023-2028) approved by the President and in line with its enhanced tourism campaign, “Love the Philippines,” the DOT is deep in developing more culinary tours and festivals, dining destinations, and food trail activities to further intensify the promotion and development of the country’s diverse gastronomy tourism offerings.

“As we intensify our diversification of the country’s tourism portfolio through multidimensional tourism, we strongly see food as a crucial element in enhancing the Philippine cultural experience. In addition to integrating food in festivals, arts and crafts, traditions, and practices, we are actively working towards supporting the development of halal/Muslim-friendly tourism, heritage villages for cultural communities, and the preservation of farms and heritage sites,” the DOT chief explained.

Serving more than just food, gastronomy tourism encapsulates a nation’s culture, history, and traditions. For the Philippines, promoting the sector drives sustainable economic growth and enhances the country’s position as a tourism powerhouse.

Aside from the day-long forum on June 26, 2024 which brings together tourism and gastronomy powerhouses to tackle policy framework for the development and promotion of gastronomy tourism, value of land and products in the sustainable development of gastronomy tourism, cost-effective and environmentally responsible strategies for reducing food waste and promoting local sourcing, successful best practices in gastronomy tourism in the Asia Pacific region, among others, the delegates will be able to sample the best of Philippine flavors through a showcase by top Filipino chefs, and get a glimpse of Cebu’s allure as a top tourist destination through a technical tour on June 27, 2024.

“The Philippines has a myriad of experiences in store for our delegates to offer tourists coming from around the world. Experiencing our food is on top of that list as it is rooted in our history and tradition. Just as the Philippines is a blend of various cultures, Filipino food mixes and melds different influences to come up with something for everyone,” Christina concluded.
